Morgan Marine Limited has a track record of success. In the recent Business awards sponsored by Carmarthen Journal and Llanelli Star, we were awarded not only the Manufacturing(small to medium) award but also the overall best Business award for Carmarthershire. With over 50 years experience in business and based in Ammanford, Morgan Marine serves customers in the water, energy, telecoms and rail sectors, including engineering giant Siemens, using the buildings to house equipment such as transformers. Much of it then goes overseas to countries in Europe, Russia and the United States. Morgan Marine employs 238 staff and just under two-thirds of them work in Ammanford.
The vast majority of the remainder are based at Swansea Enterprise Park and Baglan Industrial Estate. With Further plans to expand the organisation to North Wales within 2 years. Martyn Ingram, 51 began at Morgan Marine on the shop floor 27 years ago, and is now Managing Director.
He said: I don’t consider myself any different to what I did back then. “It is a responsibility, maybe - and we try to make it as happy as we can. It can be difficult as well, we have been through a major recession”. “We spent a massive amount on research and development and training in the last few years, which is where our growth has come from”.
The company is a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of glass reinforced polymer (GRP) structures such as kiosks and ticket booths and was able to expand after receiving a funding from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund in 2014.In the last three years the company has seen its turnover increase from £11m to £18m and embarked on a £400,000 expansion at its seven acre HQ site near Ammanford, to meet an anticipated 10 per cent growth by the end of June 2014.
With £100,000 support the company has begun building new offices and meeting rooms at its Llandybie site to accommodate 10 additional members of their sales and design teams that will be recruited to accommodate the company’s expansion into new markets.
